Maree Lang

Managing Director - Greater Western Water

Professional Bio

I am a highly experienced CEO and senior executive who has deep experience, working and consulting across water, manufacturing, resources, government, and industry associations.

I have held leadership positions in the water industry for more than nine years, leading the strategy, delivery and operations of water and wastewater assets and networks. I am known for my strategic approach and leading transformation and growth in complex, fast changing environments, creating an atmosphere where people thrive and provide great customer and community outcomes.

I was appointed Managing Director of Greater Western Water in 2021, and I am the inaugural MD of GWW, which was created on 1 July 2021 from the integration of the former City West Water and former Wester Water businesses. I am proud to be leading Greater Western Water, which provides safe and reliable drinking water, sewerage  services, trade waste and recycled water services to the city and the rapidly growing outer west. Every day we provide services to over 1.3 million Melbournians from 130 culturally different backgrounds and I also acknowledge the peoples of the Kulin Nation, across whose land and waterways Greater Western Water is proud to serve.

I am also a member of the Western Metropolitan Partnership, a State Government initiative to involve people in the Western region in contributing to government decision-making, services, planning and policy.

I hold an MBA (Prof) from Melbourne Business School and degrees in Chemical Engineering (Honours) and Commerce from Monash University. I was recognised for achievements as one of Victoria’s Top 50 Public Sector Women for 2018 and more recently, selected to be a participant in the inaugural 2020 Executive Leadership Women in Water Program, sponsored by the Victorian Minister for Water.

Sport is a big part of my life, teaching me many leadership lessons and in my downtime you’ll find me playing, watching, supporting and talking sport. My current sport is karate, a deep personal and physical challenge. And I am a Westie who loves hanging out in Yarraville, the top 5 coolest suburb in the world.
